Fender Frontlines
THE GOLDEN AGE OF FENDER CATALOGS
Fender Frontline was the world’s only magazine dedicated exclusively to Fender guitars, amps, and related gear. Each issue was packed with in-depth reviews, artist interviews, playing tips, lessons, and the latest Fender news. More than just a catalog, Frontline offered exclusive behind-the-scenes content, making it a must-read for Fender enthusiasts and musicians alike.
Published from 1990 to 2000, Frontline served as a key resource for product information, technical details on Fender instruments, and exclusive insights from the musicians who played them. Legendary guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Richie Sambora, and Yngwie Malmsteen were featured, sharing their experiences and preferences regarding Fender gear. The magazine also included deep dives into Fender’s rich history, spotlighting iconic models like the Stratocaster, Telecaster, and Precision Bass.
A total of 27 issues were released before Fender gradually phased out the magazine’s editorial content.
From 2001 to 2011, Frontline transformed into an illustrated price list, losing its original interviews and feature articles. While it remained a reference for Fender’s latest products, many longtime readers missed the in-depth content that had made it special.
In January 2012, Fender officially discontinued Frontline, replacing it with a digital illustrated product guide available on its website. This shift reflected the broader move toward online content, making a printed magazine unnecessary. However, the legacy of Frontline endures—vintage copies remain highly collectible, serving as a time capsule of Fender’s evolution during the ‘90s and early 2000s.

Despite its discontinuation, Frontline remains a nostalgic piece of Fender history, remembered fondly by fans who appreciated its blend of storytelling, education, and product information. Vintage copies are still sought after by collectors, preserving the magazine’s legacy in the world of guitar culture.
